"This is what 785 truckloads of dirt and optimism looks like." That's how Midtown Alliance describes Midtown Green, the temporary lawn at 98 14th St between Peachtree and West Peachtree. It opened to the public in September 2026. The site sits one block south of the Arts Center MARTA station. It's open every day from sunrise to sunset.
The word "temporary" has no deadline attached. Midtown Alliance says the cost and timeline for the permanent park are still being worked out. So the lawn will stay a lawn until that changes, and this fall's free events are where the park's planners are showing their vision and asking for ideas.
Four Acres That Kept Failing
For years, this four-acre block of 14th Street was a gap in Midtown. Midtown Alliance calls the property an abandoned, debris-strewn failed development site. Its request-for-qualifications FAQ says earlier development proposals fell through because of funding, financing or market problems.
The Midtown Improvement District bought the land in 2025, with financing from SouthState. Midtown Alliance says the site is "one of the last undeveloped parcels of its size in Midtown." It also says more than 44,500 workers, residents, students and visitors are within a seven-minute walk. The project page puts it plainly: "No other Community Improvement District in Georgia has taken on a project like this before."
What's Out There Right Now
The interim version is simple. Last spring, crews brought in 785 dump-truck loads of dirt to level the site. Since then they've laid Bermuda sod and a grass-and-wildflower mix, and added irrigation. Midtown Alliance says the grass and wildflower planting still needs more time to become fully established.
Around the lawn:
- Walking paths around the edge, picnic tables, lawn games and portable restrooms
- A space set up for food truck parking
- New MIDTOWN letters on a concrete pad on the north side, facing 14th Street
- The former Opus Place sales center on the western edge, being converted into headquarters for Midtown Alliance's supplemental public safety and maintenance teams
If you're driving, Rough Draft Atlanta's opening preview names the Promenade Parking deck as the closest paid parking. It has entrances on both 14th and 15th Streets.
The Rest of the Fall, Date by Date

The Thursday fitness classes ran Pilates with JETSET in September, then switched to cardio dance in October. Midtown Alliance expects 20 to 30 artisan vendors at each market, plus food and activities. Soccer in the Streets, Atlanta History Center and Alliance Theatre are the community partners.
The Lunch on the Green page gave a full lineup for October 8. It included Happy Belly, Gekko, Wise Burgers, Tutti Gelati and Whim Matcha, with Happily Coffee Roasters and Bode & Ev as vendors and Fever Fawn on music. That list was for October 8 only, so check the page closer to October 22 for that day's lineup.
October 22 Is the Fullest Thursday
October 22 is the one day in the fall schedule with events on the lawn at both lunch and after work. Food trucks are on the grass from 11 to 2, and cardio dance starts at 5:30.
Atlanta Botanical Garden has events the same evening. Its Great Pumpkin-Carving Festival falls on October 22, and its Fest-of-Ale runs every Thursday in October. Scarecrows in the Garden is up through November 1, and Goblins in the Garden is on October 18. A Thursday on the lawn can easily turn into a full evening in Midtown.
The High Museum has three fall exhibitions open during its centennial year:
- "I SPY! Walter Wick's Hidden Wonders," through Jan. 3, 2027
- "Martin Puryear: Nexus," through Jan. 17, 2027
- "Photography as a Way of Life: Minor White, Aaron Siskind, and Harry Callahan," which opened Oct. 9 and runs through Feb. 7, 2027
Midtown Alliance's project page puts 98 14th Street in "the largest concentration of arts and cultural attractions in the Southeast."
The Streets Around It Changed Too
The blocks north of the lawn are easier to get through than they were last spring. The 15th Street Extension from Williams Street to West Peachtree opened to traffic on August 31, 2026. It has sidewalks and green-marked bike lanes. Work began in March 2024 on an 18-month contract. Crews then hit unexpected rock between Williams and Spring, and the schedule was extended while they worked out a fix. Midtown Alliance had corrective work scheduled for the weeks of September 28 and October 5.
To the east, the 12-block Juniper Street complete-street project between 14th Street and Ponce de Leon was substantially complete on March 3, 2026. Midtown Alliance still listed traffic-control maintenance and corrective work along the corridor for the weeks of September 28 and October 5.
These streets connect the lawn to the newest dinner options nearby:
- Botánico Cocina & Social Club at 1106 Crescent Ave. NE opened August 13, according to What Now Atlanta. Brothers Felipe and Eduardo Rivera own it, and executive chef Juan Guillermo Hormiga runs the kitchen. The menu draws on Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela and Cuba.
- JuNi is a Japanese and sushi restaurant at the corner of 12th and Juniper, according to Rough Draft Atlanta. Its address is 1081 Juniper St. NE, and Rough Draft's September openings roundup listed it as opening in October 2026. Its website has a reservations link, but no opening date has been confirmed.
- Pataaka and Sozou both opened in August at 1020 Spring St. NW in Spring Quarter, near 10th and Spring. Pataaka serves South Asian-inspired small plates from chef Anish Nair, according to Rough Draft Atlanta. Sozou is chef Fuyuhiko Ito's restaurant for sushi and robatayaki.
The Park Being Planned Underneath
The permanent plan is far bigger than the lawn. Field Operations, the firm behind New York's High Line, designed the concept. The rest of the team includes engineering firm Gresham Smith, architect Thomas Phifer and Partners, visitor-experience strategists DVDL and cultural historian Karcheik Sims-Alvarado. The concept includes:
- Immersive art
- A pavilion and outdoor performance venue
- A restaurant and café
- A community building with public restrooms
- Flexible gathering areas meant to stay busy from morning yoga through evening shows
When Midtown Alliance unveiled the plans in April 2026, the concept included a pavilion inspired by magnolias and a terraced amphitheater for events of up to 800 people.
Before any of that is built, Midtown Alliance still has to finish design, engineering and cost planning, and it is preparing to launch a capital campaign. Even "Midtown Green" is a working title that could change. According to Rough Draft Atlanta's preview, the fall events are also a chance to meet the project team, see the long-term vision and share ideas for the space.
So far, the last scheduled event on the lawn is the Midtown Artisan Market on Sunday, December 13, from noon to 6 p.m.
